Explanation on Cultural Connotation of Double Fish Hung on the Wall(Shuang Yu Xuan Ge)(I)

When creating Health Qigong • Daoyin Yang Sheng Gong Shi Er Fa, I have written a poem concerning the ancient Yi-ology mode, to reflect pure and fresh style in the plain and elegant culture.

"Taiji (tai chi) diagram of Yi-ology is circular. Farewell to the old and blessing's knocking at the door. Yin-yang Fish evolves into Four Symbols and Eight Trigrams, which are all meaningful simple images."

The poem introduces the end-to-end, consistent and round Taiji diagram, which is the traditional culture connotation of Double Fish Hung on the Wall(Shuang Yu Xuan Ge).

However, I considered that the texts of this teaching material should not too much, so the poem was not adopted. Thanks to the medium "Health Qigong", now I have the honor to show the traditional culture implied in the poem from three aspects for reference.

I. Introduction to the circular Taiji diagram of Yi-ology

The so-called circular image "○" here refers to the Taiji diagram in the original chaotic state that yin and yang are undivided. Exercisers of Health Qigong • Daoyin Yang Sheng Gong Shi Er Fa all know that the beginning of Double Fish Hung on the Wall(Shuang Yu Xuan Ge)is composed of two approximately equal circles.

First circle: make left foot in T-step, meanwhile, rotate palms and arms inward and then outward, finally close at the front of the right lower abdomen.

Second circle: make right foot in T-step, meanwhile, rotate palms and arms inward and then outward, finally close at the front of the left lower abdomen.

What concepts are implied in the circles? And why draw the circles? Astronomers tell us that all things in the universe, from the solar system of galaxy to the cell atoms, electrons, protons of the microscopic world, are circulated, contacted and developed in the circular form back and forth.

For example, the movement routine of celestial body is circular. "The Book of Changes • Xi Ci" said, "The sun and moon succeed each other, summer goes and winter comes, and year in and year out." It reflects that the movement of celestial bodies is a circulating circle. As a result, all creatures of nature will also have periodic changes, e.g. the "sprout, growth, bloom, wilting and death" of plants, as well as the "birth, growth, maturity, aging and death" of animals (including humans).

The lifting motion of qi movement of human organs is also the same, which is the circular motion that stomach and spleen placed in the center, heart and kidney separately in the upside and downside, and liver and lung separately in the left and right, namely taking middle earth as pivot, kidney water up and heart fire down to achieve coordination between the heart and kidney, with the left warm up and right cool down circle motion.

The circulation of body meridians also follow the circular law, including the twelve meridians, fourteen meridians, eight extra channels, lung regulating expiration, kidney governing inspiration, as well as the up and down of blood and Qi between heart and lung, etc. (See "Zhou Yi Quan Shu" and "Zhou Yi Yu Zhong Yi Xue").

The circular Taiji diagram formed in the exercise Double Fish Hung on the Wall(Shuang Yu Xuan Ge)exactly corresponds to the circle of human body and different circles of all things in the universe. It can make the joints flexible and strengthen the muscles, bones and ligaments, more importantly, it fully reflects that the exercises and qi movement of all organs of the human body are coordinated, and embodies the harmonious relationship between human and heaven, namely the overall concept of the unity of heaven and man. Undoubtedly, it has a certain effect on invigorating health effectively, preventing and treating various diseases and prolonging life.
