My Ideas on Regulating Qi Movement of the Body
  I have published the article named My Ideas on How to Start Qi Movement in the magazine Health Qigong No. 5 (2011). With the increase of practice time and the accumulation of the Qi sensations, I feel that regulating Qi movement of the body is the new state of practicing Health Qigong.
  Reviewing the process of practicing Health Qigong·Liu Zi Jue, I think that if starting Qi movement is the first leap, then regulating Qi movement of the body is the second leap. Two leaps reflect different practice states. It is a qualitative change of the improvement of the state of integration of three regulations from starting Qi movement to regulating Qi movement of the body. If exercisers know the approach and steps of this change process, and follow the practice essentials step by step, they will do much better for reaching that state. Basing on this consideration, I would like to talk about my personal experience for exchanging and consulting.
  I. The five stages of regulating Qi movement of the body 
  The smooth Qi movement of the body is the ideal state of practicing Health Qigong, but the creation of this state is the phased training and regulating process. It can also be called the five significant stages or states of the integration of three regulations.
  The first stage: start the Qi movement
  Exercisers should attach importance to start Qi movement in the exercise of Health Qigong, because it is really the important process of achieving the integration of three regulations through the practice, which is the entry of Health Qigong. The start of Qi movement is to feel the presence and flow of the Qi of Dantian. As The Interpretation of Yellow Court Classic (Huang Ting Jing Jiang Jie) said, "the well-trained exercisers with quiet body and mind pay attention to the acupoints, they will reach the innate pure and clear scene when they see the dim and trance images". The state described here is similar to the state of starting Qi movement of health Qigong. Please refer to the article of My Ideas on How to Start Qi Movement in the magazine Health Qigong No. 5 (2011) to know the methods to start Qi movement. Keep mind concentration on Dantian in the practice, breath to Dantian, and carefully pay attention to the trends of Dantian. The peristaltic Qi of Dantian is the start of Qi movement, showing the state of integration of three regulations. After starting the Qi movement, attention should be paid to the Qi of Dantian from the breathing. In the inhaling and exhaling, people should concentrate on the opening and closing of Dantian, forming the stable state of the opening and closing of Dantian, so that the Qi of Dantian is abundant to achieve the expansion of Dantian.
  The second stage: the expansion of Dantian
  The expansion means enlargement and being filled. After starting Qi movement, exercisers must more focus on Dantian. Starting Qi movement is just like the bud, because the Qi movement is very weak. it will go away after being felt for a while, and then start again and disappear again, which is a normal phenomenon. Since the start of Qi movement is like the Yang qi in the midwinter, which has began to develop while people can hardly feel them. Some exercisers did not care about the weak Qi movements and fail to consolidate and expand Dantian timely; some exercisers can not feel the peristaltic Qi of Dantian, due do they did not know how to start the Qi movement and how to practice after felt the peristaltic Qi of Dantian. The results of both cases above are that Dantian is not formed. Therefore, some exercisers have not experienced the running phenomenon of Qi movement after practicing for several years, because they did not know how to start the Qi movement.
  After starting the Qi movement, the ancients emphasized that "the travelling, residing, sitting and lying cannot be separated from mind concentration on Dantian)". As the old saying, it said that "it is like the cat catching rat, the dragon holding the bead in the mouth, and the hen embracing the egg ", in which the words "rat, bead and egg" refer to the Qi movement of Dantian, and the words "cat, dragon and hen" refer to the mind. The expansion of Dantian is achieved by the process of continuous mind concentration on Dantian and experiencing the opening and closing of the Qi movement of Dantian, which is to expand the scope of Dantian naturally on the basis of sufficient Qi of Dantian. The expansion of Dantian is conductive to form the stable state of the integration of three regulations, and then develop to the integration of two Dantian.
  The third stage: the integration of two Dantian
  The so-called integration of two Dantian refers to the extension of the running range after the start of Qi movement. It can be understood in two ways. On one hand, it is the range of the integration of two Dantian. Since it is the integration of two Dantian, there must be two Dantian. Generally speaking, Dantian refers to the lower Dantian. The center of the lower Dantian in Liu Zi Jue refers to the midpoint between Shenque acupoint and the vital point. The middle Dantian should be formed first before the integration of two Dantian, the center of the middle Dantian is generally the midpoint between Tanzhong acupoint and Shenzhu acupoint. After the expansion of lower Dantian, the experience of Qi movement has been very sensitive, very natural and very strong, and at this time, exercisers should keep mind concentrate on the middle Dantian and feel that starting Qi movement in Dantian and a smaller range state of nothingness is formed, that is, the integration of three regulations of the middle Dantian. One the other hand, the integration of two Dantian is characterized as follows: ① the clear development trend. After the formation of middle Dantian, the middle Dantian develops downward and lower Dantian develop upward, the lower Dantian connects with the middle Dantian, and the abdominal cavity and chest cavity connect together into a large cavity, which are the natural trend. ② The precondition is higher. The scope of the opening and closing of Qi movement has expanded, it is premised on that it is more closely related to Qi, and the magnitude of the Qi of Dantian is increased. ③ The center of opening and closing can present the displacement state. The center of opening and closing after the connection can at the lower Dantian or middle Dantian. The state is the same as the previous experience of the lower Dantian and middle Dantian, which are the significant experience of the integration of three regulations. The integration of two Dantian will developed to the integration of three Dantian.
  The fourth stage: the integration of three Dantian
  Forming the upper Dantian is the basic element of the integration of three Dantian. The center of the upper Dantian is generally the point of intersection of the inward of Yintang acupoint and the downward of Baihui acupoint. As it is the same with the formation of the middle Dantian in the state and function, so I will not repeat them.
  The so-called integration of three Dantian refers to unite the upper, middle and lower Dantian into one. At this time, the abdomen, chest cavity and cranial cavity are merged into a large cavity, the entire upper body has become a "balloon"; just keep mind concentrate on any Dantian, three Dantian are within the scope; linking Baihui and perineum, exercisers can experience the Qi pushes upward Baihui Acupoint, press downward the perineum, as well as the surrounding expansive feeling; exercisers can not only experience the opening and closing of three Dantian, but also experience the Qi movement from any Dantian reaches the entire large cavity .
  In the Ji Rang Ji-Guan Wu Yin written by Shao Yong in the Song Dynasty, it said that "all parts of the body have appeared the warm feeling in the practice, which is like the natural ascending Qi in the spring". "At the beginning, the pneumatic Qi in the belly is tiny, and gradually access to the limbs, which is like worms walking on the skin. If exercisers continue to practice, they will be able to achieve the state of sufficient Qi with calm spirit and feel comfortable, which is really the warm feeling in the spring. It is about to enter the fifth stage of regulating Qi movement of the body, that is, after the integration of three Dantian, Qi movement expands to the limbs and achieve the integration of three regulations state with the whole body imbued with Qi.
  The fifth stage: the whole body imbued with Qi
  What should be illustrated here is that Qi and Qi movement are two different concepts. The concept of Qi is very complex and the article will not make too much explanation. Qi movement refers to the running of Qi in the body. Regulating Qi movement referred in this paper is also in this sense.
  Regulating Qi movement of the body is a phased and gradual process, while the phased division is intended to illustrate the state of the regulating process, rather than the exercisers must practice according to the several stages. Do not divide by stage and deliberately seek some kind of state.
  After reaching this stage, Qi the body is sufficient and unobstructed. The Baihui acupoint in the center of top, Laogong acupoint in the center of palms and Yongquan acupoint in the center of soles are linked together; when Dantian opens outward, Qi movement expands toward all directions around, and there is a little feeling of filling up in the entire body cavity, which can be felt by the skin of the body at the same time; when turning the coccyx, Qi movement of the whole body is rotating, meanwhile Baihui acupoint also turns at the same direction, so that exercisers can appreciate what the ancients said, "the coccyx is upright and spirit goes through the top"; Yongquan acupoint and Baihui acupoint are linked as a whole.
  II. The practice formulas of the various stages of regulating Qi movement of the body
  My experience is that practicing the single routine of Health Qigong-Liu Zi Jue is more conducive to increase the skill, and it can better experience the state of the integration of three regulations. However, practicing the single routine must on the basis of being skilled in the complete set of methods, and there is no shortcuts can be taken. Here is the single exercise chosen by me in the five stages.
  The best formula of the first stage should be the HU Exercise. On the basis of skillfully mastering the entire exercise, repeatedly practice HU Exercise will be conductive to start Qi movement quickly. In Health Qigong-Liu Zi Jue, the author has been particularly praised the HU Exercise, because it is the best formula to start the Qi movement and the shortcuts to increase the skills quickly and easily. Why? In the HU Exercise, it is easy to achieve the regulations of the body, heart and breath ; it is easy to develop the habit of reverse abdominal breathing; it is easy to form a conditioned reflex, so that Qi of the breath of form rhythmically opens and closes, the place of Dantian agitate naturally, regularly and rhythmically; it is easy to make the sense around Dantian develop from nothing, from fuzzy to clear, from weak to strong; it is easy to "practice Qi and mind, combine mind and Qi, so that Qi of the body is plenty"; it is easy to develop the energy of the body, improve the sensitivity of the mind and heart on the Qi; it is easy to expand the scope of Qi movement, until the whole body imbued with qi. Exercisers can become aware of the benefits of practicing HU Exercise from the start of Qi movement.
  The best formula of the second stage should be the HU Exercise. Repeatedly practice the HU Exercise, the effect is particularly significant. By practicing HU Exercise, the reverse abdominal breathing habit is formed and the rhythmic opening and closing of Dantian is achieved, the breathing is soft, natural and long. You can clearly experience the Qi movement to reach the location and extent, such as the lumbar spine, hip, sacrum, and perineum points and so on. The scope of Dantian gradually expands and increases, which runs a solid foundation for the circulation of Qi movement of the body.
  The best formula of the third stage should be the SI Exercise and HE Exercise. The force of the SI Exercise surge on the abdomen is relatively large, exercisers should always keep mind concentrate on the middle Dantian, and the effect is very good. HU Exercise can also be used, the movements are unchanged and exercisers should keep mind concentrate on the middle Dantian. XU Exercise can also be used, and exercisers should keep mind concentrate on the middle Dantian.
  What should be specially noted here is that HE Exercise is designed for the integration of the middle and lower Dantian: when "palms up", the Qi movement going into the thoracic cavity from the abdominal cavity; when exercisers sound "HE", Qi movement going back to the abdomen from the chest; Qi of the lower Dantian rises to the middle Dantian, and the Qi of the medium Dantian going down to the  lower Dantian; Qi movement running back and forth, Qi becomes more and more plenty and smooth, and two Dantian naturally are merged into a whole.
  The best formula of the fourth stage should be the HU Exercise and HE Exercise. When starting the Qi movement of the upper Dantian with the HE Exercise, the guide movements keep the same, the idea of opening and closing should focus on Dantian. In addition, the HE Exercise is the best formula of the integration of three Dantian.  In the HE Exercise, when "palms up", the Qi movement rises to Baihui acupoint; when exercisers sound "HE", Qi movement going down to the perineum. Taking the middle Dantian as the center, SI Exercise can be used and taking the lower center as the lowing Dantian, HU Exercise can be used together to achieve the opening and closing of the large cavity, which is up to Baihui acupoint and down to the perineum.
  The best formula of the fifth stage should be the XI Exercise. In the XI Exercise, Qi of Dantian going upward to Baihui acupoint, guiding downward to Yongquan, the body are connected together into a whole. Before this, exercisers can experience them first: guiding the Qi of Dantian to the toes, so that Qi movement expanding to the entire lower limbs, which is the best formula of CHUI Exercise; guiding the Qi of Dantian to the fingers, so that Qi movement expanding to the entire upper limbs, which is the best formula of XU Exercise; In the HE Exercise, when "palms up", the Qi movement rises to Baihui acupoint; when exercisers sound "HE", Qi movement going down to the perineum. Then practice the XI Exercise, the whole body is comfortable.
  In short, the scope of promoting the circulation of Qi in each formula of each stage is different, which should be determined according to the stage at that time. As mentioned above, practice the HE Exercise, there are also three scopes of the circulation of Qi movement. So are other movements.
  III. The experience achieved in the state regulating Qi movement of the body. 
  From starting the Qi movement to regulating Qi movement of the body, are there any concise and brief experience can used to guide the practice? My practice experience is summarized as "four totals".
  The master key is to start the Qi movement
  The state of the integration of three regulations starts from the start of Qi movement. With the master key of starting the Qi movement, the state of the integration of three regulations keep accompanied with the practice process.
  The first step is always the hardest. In the five stages of regulating Qi movement of the body, starting the Qi movement is the most difficult stage, which requires the longest time. Starting Qi movement here specifically refers to start the Qi movement of the lower Dantian. As the foundation of the lower Dantian, the sensitivity to experience Qi is increased, and then starting the Qi movement of the middle and upper Dantian becomes easy. In other words, the Qi movement of the middle and upper Dantian do not need such a long time like that of the lower Dantian. It is much faster and easier. To distinguish the easiness and difficulty is conductive to boost the confidence in practice. The ancients said that "people of the lower class cultivate their bodies, people of the middle class cultivate their Qi, and people of the upper class cultivate their heart". In fact, it is the three stages of the progressive process in the practice; starting Qi movement is progressive to the stage, i.e. "people of the middle class cultivate their Qi". Without the start of the Qi movement, exercisers cannot reach the integration of three regulations state of Health Qigong. Once starting the Qi movement, getting the master key of the integration of three regulations and knowing how to practice after starting the Qi movement, then the state of the integration of three regulations will change rapidly, which means that things are difficult and it can be easily handled with the master key.
  The master helm is the opening and closing of Dantian. 
  The helm refers to the key of the movement of things. Each stage of the integration of three regulations state is the result of the opening and closing of Qi movement. The center of the opening and closing of Qi movement is Dantian, so the master helm is the opening and closing of Dantian. After reaching the state of the whole body imbued with qi, breathing cannot leave the Dantian naturally, the practice methods are naturally converted to the form of Qi leading by the sounds and Qi leading by forms. The focus of Health Qigong •Liu Zi Jue is to practice Qi, which is the method dominated by Qi leading by the sounds and Qi leading by forms. Qi leading by the sounds and Qi leading by forms serve for practicing Qi and spirit, that is, the sounds and forms are subordinated to and serve for the Qi and spirit. Experience the Qi movement conversion of sound and forms carefully: Qi leading by the sound is used in the stage of regulating the body; after the whole body imbued with qi, it is changed to make the sound leading by the Qi movement; Qi leading by forms is used in the stage of regulating the body, after the whole body imbued with qi, it is changed to the movements pushed by the Qi movement, that is, the forms leading by Qi movement. The Qi in the process of Qi leading by the sounds and Qi leading by forms is from the opening and closing of Dantian. Such careful experience can quickly elevate the state of the integration of three regulations.
  The master trick is to mind concentration and promoting the circulation of Qi. 
  Mind concentration and promoting the circulation of qi is the master trick to promote the state of the integration of three regulations. To keep mind concentrate on Dantian just show the location of mind concentration, to experience the nothingness of Dantian is the real state; the opening and closing of Dantian is just the main form of the circulation of Qi movement (the opening and closing is principal, and the ascending and descending is complementary). To experience the opening and closing of Dantian is the state of the integration of three regulations. Practice Qi requires both mind concentration and promoting the circulation of qi, so as to promote the gathering, storage and circulation of Qi. If only mind concentration rather than promoting the circulation of Qi, then it could easily lead to the disadvantages of accumulating the harmful Qi. Conversely, if only promoting the circulation of Qi, instead of mind concentration, it could easily lead to the consumption of Qi, so that the Qi cannot be gathered and stored in the Dantian, as a result exercisers may practice unsuccessfully. Qi movement runs in different ways, but the reason is common. The "mind concentration" here refers to concentrate on the Dantian, "promoting the circulation of qi" refers to "the ideas guiding the circulation of Qi in the body. Mind concentration and promoting the circulation of Qi mentioned here has come down to the practice principle - combining the practice and cultivation. All movements of Health Qigong ·Liu Zi Jue are based on mind concentration on the Dantian, which combines mind concentration and promoting the circulation of Qi. There are three Dantian to concentrate on, and promoting the circulation of Qi is determined according to the range of different stages. If exercisers keep mind concentration more, then they are cultivated more, and if they promote the circulation of Qi more, then they practice more. Mind concentration and promoting the circulation of Qi mentioned here refers to the distribution of idea for the mind concentration and promoting the circulation of Qi when experiencing the state, which is the master trick of the practice. The experience process is the sharp thinking process combining the sense and concrete, which is conducive to increase the skills and the sublimation of the state of the integration of three regulations. In the experience course, if exercisers feel that the opening and closing is automated and it can be achieved all the time, but the ascending and descending needs to be guided by the ideas, they can understand that the operating mode of Qi movement is that "the opening and closing is principal, and the ascending and descending is complementary".
  The master essential is to practice step by step. 
  The state of the integration of three regulations is a process that the Qi movement is gradually integrated. The five significant stages are evolutionary, which belongs to the universality. After understanding this training sequence, the practice effects will be more effective. Going forward step by step timely in accordance with this order and knowing that "the scenery in the front is infinite good", the exercisers would not be infatuated with the present state. Thus, exercisers would not artificially pursue the feel and state in the practice, because overhastiness is bound to cause the bad results, which manifests the importance of the master essential. The master essential is also reflected on the density, strength and flow of the Qi movement experienced in the practice.   At the start of each stage, the density and strength of Qi movement are very small, which are slowly growing, and the flow of Qi movement is also growing. The gradual process is the clear experience of the state of the integration of three regulations.
  The five significant stages is the law to experience the integration of three regulations. There are two methods to understand the law. First, it is to explore the experiences. The five significant stages in this article is the result of exploring, and it is summarized on the basis of the mature experience. Second, it is to search after the law according to the theory of the universal rule. We have studied these laws and explored the concise and easy function and steps. Once we have reached the consensus, the later exercisers can master it more quickly and easily and avoid the detours. To benefit the later exercisers is the motivation to write this article.
  This paper has only explored the previous five stages of the state of integration of three regulations in Health Qigong •Liu Zi Jue. The whole body imbued with qi is only the milestone in the stage of regulating Qi in the state of integration of three regulations. The higher states in the stage of the whole body imbued with qi have not experienced yet, I would like to serve as a modest spur to inspire other exercisers to show their ideas.
