Explanation on Cultural Connotation of Double Fish Hung on the Wall(Shuang Yu Xuan Ge)(III)

Yin-yang Fish evolves into Four Symbols and Eight Trigrams

Yin-yang Fish here refers to the exercise Double Fish Hung on the Wall(Shuang Yu Xuan Ge).

Here, Four Symbols of Taiji Diagram refer to Shaoyang, Laoyang, Shaoyin and Laoyin in the terms of Eight Trigrams, and mean spring, summer, autumn and winter in terms of seasons, as well as refer to east, west, south and north in the terms of orientations.

And the Eight Trigrams include Qian, Kan, Gen, Zhen, Xun, Li, Kun, Dui and a variety of symbols. (Figure 3)

When people walk in temples, palaces and folk area, the end to end Yin-yang Fish consisting of an almost perfect S-curve with different shades of color (mostly black and white) and Eight Trigrams can be seen on the walls or roofs (see Figure 3).

In summary, it can be seen that the Taiji diagram involved in Double Fish Hung on the Wall(Shuang Yu Xuan Ge) not only contains the changing universe model of waxing and waning of yin-yang, resulting from the mutual movement of sun, moon and earth, but also marks the transformation and evolution of the universe, and symbolizes the life curve of human body, namely birth, growth, maturity, aging and death, as well as reflects the rhythm of chronomedicine of traditional Chinese medicine visceral activities.

A simple exercise Double Fish Hung on the Wall(Shuang Yu Xuan Ge) has ideographically demonstrated the Eight Trigrams and Dragon Book (Long Shu) of Fuxi in fifty century B.C. with action form, and its profound and lasting meaning is beyond words. The Confucius, a great thinker, educator, and founder of Confucianism in the late Spring and Autumn Period, has praised Yi-ology in his later years, and this text can be concluded with his inspiration, "Yi-ology takes the law of changes of yin and yang between heaven and earth as the highest criterion". I hope you will like it.
